Australian Stamp Designer Dies

We have been advised of the recent passing of long-time philatelist and good friend to the Ukrainian Collectibles Society in Adelaide – Mr Petro Kravchenko of Sydney, Australia. Please read the tribute page that provides a synopsis of the late Peter’s rich life.

"In my humble opinion his crowning philatelic achievement was the facilitation of the issuance of the postage stamp commemorating the 50th Anniversary of Ukrainian Settlement in Australia in 1998," said George Fedyk,  Secretary/Treasurer Ukrainian Collectibles Society, Adelaide, Australia. 

 

This stamp was issued on December 20,1998 and appears as stamp number 231 in the current Divari Catalogue (1918-2008).  This postage stamp gave Australia’s Ukrainian community immense pride.  It showed the dispora that Ukrainians in Australia, even though small in numbers, are vibrant, active and supportive of their own and their parent’s homeland and that they cherished their unique heritage.
