Ukraine won two awards in the 4th International commemorative coins competition "Coin Constellation-2010".  The competition took place during the Second European conference on commemorative coins COINS-2010 held in St. Petersburg, Russia on June 9-10, 2010.  The conference was attended by mints of Ukraine, Russia, Great Britain, Canada, Austria, Hong Kong, Spain and other countries.

A total of 209 coins from 24 countries were submitted for the competition and Ukraine won two of six categories:  Coin of the Year and Silver Coin of the Year.

UW2003-22-01aIt has long frustrated me that so many historians, Ukrainian and otherwise, seem to accept so "blindly" the medieval records of early Kyivan Rus' (the first state on Ukrainian and eastern European lands).  By "blindly" I mean that obvious inconsistencies within the earliest chronicles are parroted as if they were set in stone, without any critical examination and without searching for possible alternate sources.  I have long had an interest in Ihor, my royal namesake of the 10th century (Ihor derives from Ingvar, which derives from Inger(t)), and over several years have researched and compiled his biography as well as biographies of his wife, Olha, and son, Sviatoslav.  Together they form medieval Ukraine's first "First Family."

A Large Vermiel award winning Trident exhibit is up for grabs to the highest bidder.  UPNS member David Crocker from South Africa has decided to part with his Trident exhibit which has been winning awards over the last 4 years.  The oldest German stamp auction house, Heinrich Köhler, is offering the exhibit in auction 339/340 which runs March 22 - 27, 2010.  The exhibit may be viewed in the Exhibit section of this site.

No. 1025 "a-kertschenite", Face value – 4,85 UAH.

Protection of stamps in the block: light elements of stones luminesce under UV-light.

Selvages of the block are artistically decorated. Texts on the selvages:
