On June 1, 2010 the National Bank of Ukraine issue a 2 hryven coin commemorating Ivan Mykytovych Kozhedub (June 8, 1920 — August 12, 1991) in the Outstanding Personalities of Ukraine series. He was the leading Soviet and Allied Ace of WWII with 62 kills including one Messerschmitt Me 262 Jet fighter.
Ivan Mykytovych Kozhedub was born in the village of Obrazhievka, a settlement in the Sumy region, Ukrainian SSR. Kozhedub was awarded the Hero of the Soviet Union with the Order of Lenin three times (1944, 1944, 1945), seven Orders of the Red Banner, Order of Alexander Nevsky, two Orders of the Red Star, Order of the Patriotic War First Class, Order of Alexander Nevsky, and numerous medals.
The CupperNikelZinc 2 hryven coin is 31mm in diameter and weighs 12.8 grams. A total of 35,000 coins were minted. A La-7 flown by Kozhedub appears on the observe side. The reverse depicts Kozhedub along with an aircraft on a runway ready for takeoff.
